FAQ

Certification
Go to the APICS corporate website and view more Certification FAQ.
Am I certified if I have completed all the CPIM classes?
No. To become CPIM certified, you must pass all 5 exams - Basics, Master Planning of Resources, Detailed Scheduling and Planning, Execution and Control of Operations and Strategic Management of Resources.

I passed an exam several years ago - will that still count toward my CPIM?
The CPIM program was reconfigured in 2000, however all exams taken under the former program count toward certification. See the CPIM Reconfiguration Transition Mapping Document for details.

How long is my certification valid?
You must submit the appropriate certification maintenance application and fee every 5 years. You may be eligible for lifetime certification if your certification is valid, you reach age 62 and submit supporting documentation.

My membership and certification has lapsed, am I still eligible for recertification?
All exams must be retaken if you are not recertified within 5 years of your original suspension date and other restrictions may apply. Also remember that APICS members receive a 50% discount from non-member fees.

Education

How much homework will be assigned?
Homework may not be formally assigned depending on the class. It is up to the student to determine their level of commitment. Workbook or participant guide reading and problems, dictionary and key word study, practice questions, and additional text readings are examples.

Online Ordering
How do I sign up for a class or event on your website?
View Sign Up for Events in 3 Easy Steps! first and then contact us if you have further ordering questions.

Membership
Can I join a chapter only?
No, you actually join the APICS association and affiliate with a local chapter. Professional membership for individuals who live in North America is $200 in most cases. A portion of your dues amount supports your local chapter affiliation.

I’m unemployed and my membership renewal is due – what can I do?
APICS members who are temporarily unemployed and actively seeking work within the operations management business sector can request a six-month extension of their membership at no cost. Members submit their completed form to their local chapter president for approval. The chapter president submits the completed form to APICS Headquarters for processing. Students, retirees, and buy-out participants are not eligible.

Refund/Cancellation
I registered for a class or event but now can’t attend. Can I get a refund?
You must cancel at least 5 days before the start of an event to be eligible for a full refund.

I attended the first class but cannot continue the series. Am I eligible for a refund?
Normally, no, however you may be eligible for a partial refund depending on the circumstances. See our Cancellation/Refund Policy for more information.
